Golden Crown Literary Awards

The nominees for the Golden Crown Literary Awards have been rolling in and I am chuffed beyond reproach to say that Periphery is listed in the Speculative category.

Big hello and congrats too to Catherine Lundoff, whose Haunted Hearths anthology is up in the same category :)

Eina.

When you get a root canal done they tell you the tooth might throb a little afterward. True. What they neglect to tell you is that the jaw where they poked you with three needles is going to hurt like a son-of-a-bitch.

Charlaine Harris: She's True Blood

Last week I had the opportunity to interview Charlaine Harris, author of the Southern Vampire Series, the series which the hit HBO series True Blood is based on.

Catching Up and Things

I finished my summer course this week, and so, it's three weeks off before first term kicks off again. Of course, there's no rest for the wicked, and now is the time to catch up on writing and other work.

I've just uploaded an interview with fantasy author Gregory Frost at Suite101
For those of you who are fantasy-fans, keep an eye out for an interview soon with Trudi Canavan, author of the Black Magician Trilogy. Also upcoming is an interview with Charlaine Harris, author of the wildly popular Southern Vampire Mysteries featuring telepath Sookie Stackhouse. This series is of course the basis for the HBO series True Blood, which recently won Anna Paquin the Golden Globe for Best Actress.

I bit the bullet and submitted The Violinist to Glimmer Train. It's a long shot, but you never know, and life has been known to surprise me. There are other genre markets that will find the story a more suitable fit, but I like a challenge, and this is certainly it, if nothing else. Magique is still with Weird Tales, and Ann Vandermeer has stated that they are running slightly behind schedule with reading submissions. Hopefully, any day now.

I also still have Renaissance, a short story which is liked by everyone who reads it but seems to fit nowhere.

Now for the totally out of leftfield bit. A Canadian academic publisher asked me permission to quote a line from an article I wrote on writing genre fiction for Suite101. I'm so flattered I'm still falling down. The text in question is called Get It Written, Get It Right! written for highschool level. Frankly, it's a little surreal.

Hopefully much novel writing during the next month. Inbetween the root canal I've been putting off for months.
