Call for Submissions: 'Dreams from the Witch House'
UPDATE: DEADLINE EXTENDED
The deadline to the open call for submissions has been extended to 1 March 2015 to coincide with the anthology's official Indiegogo campaign launch on 27 January 2015.
I will be editing an anthology of Lovecraftian fiction written by women, to be published by Dark Regions Press in 2015.
We have already solicited a selection of established authors to contribute work to the collection. As of 1 October 2014, I am officially accepting unsolicited submissions for an open call period that ends 31 January 2015.
The only set requirement for the anthology is that all submissions must be written by women. Submissions from international, multi-cultural and LGBT/GSD perspectives are encouraged, as this collection will aim to present the diversity of voices within the field of Lovecraftian fiction. All stories must be submitted in English.
There is no restriction on setting, so don't feel like you have to remain within the 1920's/1930's - far future stories, contemporary, steampunk, psychological, horror, fantasy/sf and, of course, historical settings are all welcome.
I am open to a wide interpretation of 'Lovecraftian', but I'm not looking for pastiche work. Nuanced weirdness welcome, as is the overtly strange.
Word count for submissions is set between 2000 and 10 000 words. If you would like to submit something shorter or longer, please query.
No simultaneous submissions or reprints.
Payment for accepted stories will be 5c per word up to 5k, then 3c per word over 5k.
Email submissions in Word .doc or .rtf file, formatted to standard manuscript specifications to:
witchesdreams AT gmail DOT com
I look forward to reading your stories!

Hi Lynne,
This anthology sounds amazing. Just a couple of questions:
- Are simultaneous and/or multiple submissions acceptable?
- Approximately what sort of response time should writers expect? Will responses only be sent out following the January 31st deadline, or will they start to be sent out before then?
Thank you very much for your time.
Hi,
I have a very Lovecraft-ian (Lovecraft-ish?) story, but I've previously published it on a blog page. It's had a whole audience of 11 people, but I've removed the page and am wondering if you would be interested in 2nd publication rights for the piece? I think it's very appropriate (chilling and Lovecraft-ian, but also focuses on women's issues).
Ephiny:
To answer your questions: no simultaneous or multiple submissions. I will, however, endeavor to read submissions in a timely fashion and respond to authors as soon as possible.
I will read submissions as I receive them and respond to authors once I have read them.
Jennh:
Yes, I would be entirely open to reading the story.
PS: guidelines are now up at Ralan in all their detailed glory:

Can foreign people from non-English speaking countries send a manuscript?
Ines - absolutely. I would love to see stories from all over the globe. The only stipulation is that it has to be submitted in English.
Hi Lynne
I've just found this, and before I send anything in, can you advise that when you are considering Lovecraftian, are you including Cthulhu based stories?
Cheers
Gail
Gail - Lovecraftian can be interpreted as using the themes, geographies, elements and philosophies of Lovecraft's own writing. In that sense, yes, Cthulhu-based stories will be considered.
Thanks Lynne
Hi there! Apologies if this has already been answered, but I'm slightly confused on the open submission period as I have seen two sets of dates. I know the deadline has been extended to February 22nd, but are you still currently accepting submissions? Thanks a bunch.
Karla - you are indeed correct. The deadline has been extended to coincide with the anthology's Indiegogo campaign. Make sure to check it out (launches 27 January 2015) - there will be some awesome backer rewards available!
So yes, until 22 February 2015, I will still be accepting submissions.
How do I submit? I have a story that is heavy on the "gender exploration" and would like to try it out for this. Thanks!
Abigail - as per the guidelines of this post, please send your submission to the specified email address.
Hello there,
I had a question about something I saw on the Facebook page that I just came across;
" Open Submissions
As an extra perk for our campaign backers, we will accept fiction submissions for Dreams from the Witch House from female authors that contribute to the campaign. "
Is this a submission guideline now?
Thank you for your time
~Carrie Cote
Hi Carrie-Lea,
No, there has been some misunderstanding about this. We initially thought about adding an extra month for accepting submissions from campaign backers as an added bonus. However, in the end, we simply extended the open call (which started in October 2014) to the end of February 2015, when the Indiegogo campaign ends.
To reiterate, you do not need to back the campaign in any way in order to submit a story for consideration. Apologies for the confusion!
Thank you for the clarification, it's muchly appreciated :)
You're welcome :)
Hi Lynne!
I sent a query message to the email you provided, but haven't heard anything back yet.
I have a short prose poem piece that I think would be awesome for this anthology. It is around 650 words. Would you be interested in reading it?
Hi Billie,
I don't seem to have received the email, oddly. However, to answer your question, I am not accepting poetry for the anthology at this stage.
Lynne:
It isn't really a poem. It's more like a distilled short story. I call it a prose poem...I don't know why I call it a prose poem!
Okay, send it my way, to the same address given in this post, and CC it to junonite AT gmail DOT com
I sent an email recently asking if you would be interested in a flash fiction of approx 800 words but I didn't receive a reply either. Did you receive it?
Carolyn - no. Odd. Please follow the advice above and resend.
Hi, just spotted this, have I still got time to submit a 2k story? I need to do a few days work on it, what is the deadline as I keep seeing different days, I'm thinking it is 1 March?
Cheers - Cathy (UK)
Hi Cathy,
Deadline is 1 March, so yes, you have a few days left!
Hello! I was wondering if you'd received my submission, because I haven't heard anything yet... But I just peeked in at the comments and saw that others had the problem with the email as well. Should I resend it and cc the junonite email? :-)
Hello - what is the name of the story?
Good day. I submitted a story on 29-January-2015, and have not heard back about it, either. I realize that this is after the 1-March deadline, so should I assume that it was rejected, as it has not been accepted? Alternatively, if it is one that was lost in the mail, too, should I send to the junonite mail?
Thank you very much for your time and attention, no matter what the answer!
Oh, dear.
I just went looking around to see if there was any word on when people could be expecting their rejections, and ran across this.
I submitted on Friday, February 13, at 9:29 PM EST. If you didn't get my story, I understand if it's far too late to resubmit, but I'd really appreciate it if I could find out whether or not it was received?
Frances - what is the name of your story, please?
